In the ‘Back to Work’ Budget of 2023, the government introduced Returnerships to encourage individuals over 50 to re-enter the workforce.
They’re a new initiative for those over 50, It combines existing government skills programs. Focused on flexibility and using their experience to shorten training, Returnerships promote accelerated apprenticeships, Sector-Based Work Academy Programme placements, and Skills Bootcamps for over 50s.
This initiative aims to improve access to retraining. This allows individuals of all ages to explore the possibilities of a second career. Supporting this, £63 million is allocated for 8,000 additional Skills Bootcamp places for 2024-25. Plans also include 40,000 new Sector-Based Work Academy Programme placements in England and Scotland from 2023-24 to 2024-25.
