Tesla’s Optimus Robot: How Could it Reshape The Future of Work and Skills?
10th October 2024 was a big day. Not only was it the FE + Skills Collective, Elon Musk had a cool event as well, called…
Organoid Intelligence (OI) is an emerging multidisciplinary field which is working towards developing biological computing by using 3D cultures of human brain cells (brain organoids) and brain-machine interface technologies.
By leveraging the benefits of biological learning, organoid intelligence has the potential to enhance automation and reduce energy consumption. On top of all this, they also provide insights into how the human brain performs complex tasks like learning and memory.
Whilst AI is a silicon-based life form, OI is the biological counterpart. AI and OI can both grow and learn overtime, however, AI systems employ machine learning algorithms, whereas OI systems depend on the learning and memory processes occurring at the molecular and cellular levels within brain organoids.
Another difference between them is that AI systems have the capability to self-replicate through the creation of code duplicates or the autonomous generation of new algorithms, but OI is still learning, with potential to replicate stem cells in the future.
OI will create new skills within the FE and skills sector, it will get rid of more process related tasks and create a need for more complex and enjoyable skills, this will essentially create new jobs as these new skills are put into practice.
OI could revolutionise FE by enhancing the student experience, the teacher’s understanding of their students and even open up new careers for students to explore.
