The Lifelong Loan Entitlement, also known as the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE) is a transformative initiative in England set to begin in September 2025. It represents a comprehensive change in the post-18 student finance system, designed to provide a single funding solution for individuals aged 18 and above. The primary goal is to facilitate flexible learning and skill development throughout their working lives.
Under the LLE, people can pursue a range of educational opportunities, including full-time degrees, individual course modules, and other options like higher technical qualifications (HTQs). The LLE introduces a loan system, starting from the academic year 2025-2026, covering tuition fees and living costs. New learners can access up to £37,000 in tuition fees loans, equivalent to four years of current study fees.
Eligible learners will also have access to a maintenance loan to support their living expenses. Certain groups, like learners with disabilities, may be eligible for targeted maintenance grants, including assistance for childcare. The initiative aims to empower individuals to make choices about their education and career paths.
Moreover, the LLE offers transparency by allowing learners to track their loan balance through a personalized LLE account. This initiative encourages ongoing learning, enabling individuals to acquire new skills and qualifications at a time that suits them best.
Individuals under the age of 60 can avail themselves of the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE), which offers a loan to cover expenses equivalent to four years of post-18 study. This funding can be utilised at any point throughout their lifetime.
Lifelong Learning Week unfolds as a yearly week-long event spanning across England. Engaging various stakeholders, the objective is to enhance the visibility of lifelong learning across diverse policy domains.
