What is the International Baccalaureate?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a challenging academic program, a good option instead of A levels, especially if you’re thinking about going to university. It’s taught in 143 countries and has two levels for students aged 16-19.

The program has tough exams to prepare you for university and work life. You pick one subject from each of five groups, like languages, social sciences, experimental sciences, and math. You also choose either an arts subject from a sixth group or another subject from groups one to five.

The program includes:

• An extended essay where you research and study one of your subjects in-depth
• Theory of Knowledge, which focuses on critical thinking and learning across your chosen subjects
• Creativity, Action, Service, which helps your personal and interpersonal development by combining different activities with your studies, like engaging in the arts, physical activities, and community service.

What is the purpose of the International Baccalaureate?

The IB aims to develop curious, knowledgeable, and caring young people who can contribute to making the world better and more peaceful. It does this by providing education that builds understanding and respect between different cultures.
