The UK government provides funding and loans to support several types of post-secondary education, including:
– Vocational programs, foundation degrees, and diplomas at further education (FE) colleges
– Undergraduate and graduate degree programs at universities
– Apprenticeships that combine work-based training with classroom learning
Students enrolled in eligible FE and higher education programs can access tuition loans and maintenance loans from the UK government to help cover costs.
Some education tax relief options in the UK include:
– Tax relief on vocational and workplace training courses – Can claim back up to 80% of course fees from income tax payments
– Tax relief on student loan interest – No tax charged on first £1,000 of interest students pay on loans
– Tax-free childcare schemes – Up to £2,000 per child per year to help cover approved childcare costs while studying or training
UK student finance provided by the government helps fund tuition fees and living expenses while enrolled in an approved post-secondary course. Types of student finance include:
– Tuition Fee Loans – Cover full university tuition up to £9,250 per year
– Maintenance Loans – Provide up to £12,010 per year for living costs
– Extra support – Bursaries and allowances available for certain students, such as those with children or disabilities
Repayment is income-based, so former students only make payments if they are earning over a minimum threshold after studies. Any outstanding loan balance is forgiven after 30 years from the April after graduation.
