Welcome to the Governance News Tag page on FE News. This is a collection of articles, thought leadership and some videos from Governance experts in Further Education, Skills and Employability. So we have Governance experts at FE Colleges, from Independent Training Providers (ITPs), Awarding Organisations, Employer Providers and charities involved in delivering FE and Skills (so Apprenticeships to T Levels to Lifelong learning programmes).
Governance in Further Education and skills is about ensuring that educational institutions operate in a way that is ethical, accountable, and focused on delivering high-quality education and training. It involves a strategic approach to leadership, continuous improvement, stakeholder engagement, and compliance with regulatory requirements, all aimed at achieving the best outcomes for learners and the wider community.
Governance in the context of Further Education (FE) and skills refers to the systems, processes, and practices that guide, direct, and control educational institutions and training organisations. This type of governance focuses on ensuring that these institutions effectively provide high-quality education and training that meet the needs of learners, employers, and the wider community. It encompasses various elements including strategic leadership, accountability, oversight, and ensuring that the institution’s resources are used efficiently and effectively to achieve educational objectives.
ETF (the Education and Training Foundation) is very active in providing Governance training and support for ITPs (Independent Training Providers) and FE Colleges. ETF also works closely with the professional bodies in FE, particularly AELP and AoC.
The Trade body for ITPs is the memborganisationion called AELP (the Association of Employment and Learning Providers), the member body for FE Colleges in England is the AoC (the Association of Colleges) and the member organisation for Awarding Organisations, including End Point Assessment Organisations is FAB (the Federation of Awarding Bodies). HOLEX is the professional body for Adult Community Education (ACE) and Learning.
Each of these professional bodies provides bespoke Governance support to their members.
Each of these member bodies has provided thought leadership articles on FE News and will be on this dedicated Governance tag page.
