Generative AI, or generative artificial intelligence, is a subset of artificial intelligence capable of producing various forms of content, such as text, images, and other media, through the use of generative models. These models learn patterns and structures from input training data, generating new data with similar characteristics.
Advances in transformer-based deep neural networks have enabled notable systems like ChatGPT, Copilot, Bard, and DALL-E. It finds applications across diverse industries, including art, writing, software development, healthcare, finance, and more. While it offers innovative possibilities, concerns exist about potential misuse, such as creating fake news. It also involves unimodal and multimodal systems, and its applications extend to natural language processing, image generation, audio synthesis, video generation, molecular sequences, robotics, planning, data generation, and business intelligence.
Generative AI specialises in creating content like text, images, and media using generative models. Unlike AI, which encompasses diverse applications like machine learning and robotics, generative AI is specifically tailored for content generation by learning patterns from existing data. It is essentially a focused aspect within the broader field of artificial intelligence.
