Children’s unhappiness shows the need to put them at heart of policy-making
Responding to The Children’s Society report, which estimates that 219,000 children across the UK are unhappy with their lives as a whole, Liberal Democrat Shadow Education Secretary Layla Moran MP said:
“Today’s report reveals the scale of the challenges that too many children are facing on a daily basis, from being the victims of bullying at school to coming face-to-face with the unrealistic representations of body image on social media.
“Parents want their children to grow up happy, healthy and with the skills and knowledge that they need to thrive in the modern world. Yet this research suggests that the Conservatives are failing on all counts, with children worried about their friendships, their health and their chances of finding a job.
“Liberal Democrats demand better for every child. The Government should put the voices and concerns of children at the heart of policy-making – from tackling air pollution and the climate emergency to reversing school cuts, investing in children’s mental health services and creating a public health approach to serious violence.”
