CITB welcomes two new Trustees to its Board, who will contribute in shaping and monitoring the organisation’s future strategy.
Apprenticeships and Skills Minister Gillian Keegan MP appointed Sophie Seddon, People and Culture Director at Novus, and Tony Elliott, Group HR Director at Robertson Group, to the CITB Board.

Tony Elliott has over 25 years of experience in the fields of talent, people and learning, has been Chair of CITB’s Scotland Nation Council from September 2018 to June 2020, and is part of the senior team at Robertson, one of the UK’s largest privately-owned construction and infrastructure services companies. Tony feels strongly about the development of people and the growing of internal talent, the attraction of new talent, and ensuring skillsets are enhanced and future-proofed within construction.

Tony is also a member of several senior level bodies, including The Scottish Apprenticeship Advisory Board (EEG), The Scottish HR Leadership Group and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Scottish HR Leaders forum.

Sophie Seddon has worked in construction for over 10 years, having joined her family business after graduating in Business Management. Starting her career at Seddon Property Services, Sophie was instrumental in the company’s rebrand to Novus. Since then she has become the Head of Client Engagement and Communication in 2018, before moving into her most recent role this year.

Sophie understands the importance of nurturing young talent, as Novus offers numerous routes into construction for young people. She is also passionate about use of new technology, improving sustainability issues, and encouraging inclusivity within the industry.

The opportunity will allow both new members to deliver their views on industry areas, while offering a wide range of expertise and experience in the sector.

Apprenticeships and Skills Minister, Gillian Keegan, said:

“I am delighted to appoint two new Board Members to the CITB. The vast industry experience both Sophie Seddon and Tony Elliott share between them will be of great value to the construction industry.

“There has never been a greater time to make sure the sector has the skills it needs to keep building and play a key part of the country’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. I wish them both all the very best in their new roles.”

Peter Lauener, Chair of the CITB Board, said:

“I’m delighted to welcome two extremely talented people to our Board. We need a diverse range of talent, in terms of skills, experience and personal background, and I’m sure both Tony and Sophie will strengthen our decision-making at this critical time. With the challenges we face through Covid-19, and with a new CITB Strategic Plan in development, they will play a leading role in ensuring there is a strong skills-based recovery for construction.”
