Middlesbrough College students’ stunning version of “Over the Rainbow” for Teesside NHS heroes

SINGING students from @MbroCollege have recorded a stunning version of “Over the Rainbow” in homage to the bravery of Teesside #NHS workers.

The group includes singers Annie Lince, 19, and Kelsey Bradley, 18, and bassist Sam Peacock, 18. Middlesbrough College music tutor Danny Allan supports the talented students on keys.

Recording during the lockdown presented a few challenges as the group used email to send their recorded parts to one another, building the beautiful song.

Annie, from Saltburn, has earned a place at the prestigious Young Americans College of The Performing Arts in Southern California.

She said: “I wanted to pay tribute to the NHS, and this seemed like the perfect song. I asked our tutor Danny if he could help and between us all we managed to record our parts in our homes and put it together as a whole.”

Tutor Danny – an accomplished musician who has toured extensively – laid down the keyboard track for Annie and Kelsey to sing over. Sam then added the bass part.

Danny explained: “We’re extremely fortunate to have a wonderful group of young people at Middlesbrough College, which makes projects like this so enjoyable to work on.

“Annie had already been doing live performances on Instagram and Facebook, and when she approached me with the idea to record this cover as a tribute to NHS workers – I knew it would be a success.

“One of the hardest parts of the process is recording the visual and audio, sending it one another and then stitching it together at the other end, rather than anything musical. We had fun working through the process with one another!”
