This report details the number of applications to Ofsted to register as a childminder or home childcarer between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2018.

Ofsted aims to complete most applications to register as a childminder or home childcarer within 12 weeks.

There will always be a proportion that fall outside this timescale.

This can be due to:

• delays in receiving the information required from other agencies, such as criminal record checks, local authority information
• the information from these checks gives Ofsted a cause for concern that requires investigation

In April 2020, Ofsted will release applications data for childminders and home childcarers from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2019.
