Top Tips To Get Your Apprentice Through The Gateway To Success

In April 2017, the apprenticeship standards started to take over apprenticeship frameworks.

Two years on they are still causing confusion.

To help address this, Prepare to Achieve have developed top tips for employers and training providers to support apprentices in the final element of the apprenticeship journey, End-Point Assessment.

Prepare to Achieve use two assessment methods for adult social care apprenticeship standards, Situational Judgement Test and Professional Discussion.

There are a number of things apprentices can do to prepare for their Professional Discussion, such as:

  • Checking their WiFi connection at least half an hour before the discussion is due to start to avoid panicking if for some reason it doesn’t connect.
  • Being prepared with brief notes or prompts which they can refer to during the discussion.
  • Remembering to use their time wisely. Their assessor will give them regular time checks so they know exactly how long they have left.

The Situational Judgement Test consists of 60 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 90 minutes. Apprentices can prepare themselves in a number of ways, including:

  • Complete a mock test. This will give the apprentice an idea of what to expect on the day and the types of questions that will be asked.
  • Make sure they are sat in a room where distractions and interruptions can be avoided. This can make the difference between pass and fail.
  • Get a good night sleep the night before the test is a must!

Lee Evans, CEO of Prepare to Achieve said,

“We don’t believe in complicating End-Point Assessment, so we aim to support wherever we can to ensure that the experience for training providers, employers and apprentices is fuss-free and effective.”

Prepare to Achieve is a specialist End-Point Assessment organisation, accredited to deliver end-point assessment for adult social care apprenticeship standards across England.
