The Institute welcomes two new board members

Jessica Leigh Jones and Professor Malcolm Press have been appointed as non-executive directors of the Institute for Apprenticeships Board for five years. They will start their new posts on 1 June 2018.

Jessica Leigh Jones is a multiple award-winning engineer and astrophysicist. Currently, she works for Sony UK and is leading on the company’s project to transform manufacturing operations globally.

Jessica also holds non-executive director positions at WJEC/Eduqas, an exam board, and the Engineering Education Scheme Wales.

Jessica said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Institute for Apprenticeships Board. Technical education is very close to my heart having originally trained as an electrician, so I look forward to supporting the Institute as it takes responsibility for technical education in England.”

Professor Malcolm Press brings considerable senior-level experience to the role from the higher education sector.

Malcolm is Vice-Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University and previously worked at the Universities of Birmingham, Sheffield, and Manchester. 

He is an ecologist and currently a trustee of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). 

Speaking on his appointment, Malcolm said:

“I look forward to playing a role in driving up the knowledge and skills base for the benefit of individuals, the economy and society.”

They will bring an impressive blend of business, technical and higher education experience and expertise to the Board, playing a key role in supporting the Institute during the next phase of its growth.
