Success for Worsley College at community event

Is was a day to remember at Worsley College, Salford, on Saturday 21 April, as more than 350 members of the community flocked to their free, fun day event.

It was a scorcher of a day in Salford, and families from the Worsley area and beyond turned out in their masses to make the most of the glorious sunshine and all of the activities, food and entertainment that the college had put on.

Though the event and all activities were free of charge, the college managed to raise over £500 for local charities The Veterans’ Garage and The Bridgewater Youth Centre, thanks to the generous donations of those visiting.

The college parameters were lined with balloons and bunting and the bouncy castle and slide could be seen from down the road – welcoming the entire community on the day.

Guests were invited to enjoy everything from sporting activities, including rock climbing on the outdoor climbing wall, to indulging in the many food and fundraising activities put on by local businesses and curriculum areas. 

The event was a great opportunity for the college to showcase the new and current courses they offer including hospitality and catering, hair and beauty, animal care, childcare, travel and tourism and sport, to name just some of their provisions.

The catering department put on a free BBQ, chocolate fountain, and a make your own Eaton mess station. Staff and student from hair and beauty offered glitter tattoos for the kids, face-painting and free nail art manicures. The college’s childcare department ran a soft play area on the day which was on top of the balloon animal making, ice cream van and inflatable fun area for younger guests. And, children and adults alike were even invited to take a ride on the mechanical horse presented by the college’s animal care department.

Local businesses also supported the event, making it a real community gathering. Not only was the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford in attendance to say a few words, but St John’s Ambulance came in to give free first aid demonstrations, the Manchester Guide Dogs came down with some of their furry acquaintances, and Manchester Magic Mirror, a local photo booth facility, offered their services in hopes of raising even more money for the chosen charities. Hasnein Kapasi, from the company, said: “They say a picture says a thousand words and we are happy to have captured so many smiles on this fantastic fun day event at Worsley College!”

Kayley Corry, one of the event organisers added: “The event was a great success with a many people in the community attending to show their support for the college. It gave us the opportunity to re-establish ourselves within the community and to let locals know that Worsley College is open for business. We’ve been open for many years and will be for many to come. We hope to see everyone back here next year for our next event!”
