Cambridge Regional College Students shortlisted for Young Sports Personality of the Year award
Two talented Cambridge Regional College students have been shortlisted for the Young Sports Personality of the Year title in the Cambridge News education awards.
Boxer Harli Whitwell, and footballer Leon Davies are two of just three finalists in the running for the top spot, with the winner announced at a ceremony at Homerton College on 18 July.
Harli, 17, a Sport Studies student at CRC, has already won the NABC Championships title and been selected to box for England.
Football scholar Leon, 17, is also studying for a BTEC in Sport with CRC alongside his football career with Cambridge United and has been named in ‘The 11’– a group of young players who have performed highly both in football and in their studies.
David Bartlett, editor-in-chief of Cambridge News, said: “We are delighted to have had double the number of nominations from last year, and we have heard some truly inspirational stories. The quality of entries was nothing short of exceptional.”
Rob Metcalfe, head of Sport Studies at CRC, said both students would be worthy winners of the award.
“Leon and Harli are both very talented individuals who are already outstanding in their sports. It’s fantastic news that they have been shortlisted for this great award and good luck to them both at the awards night,” he said.
