Students raise money with ‘fantastically festive’ stall

Business students at Tameside College are raising money and awareness for charity, the British Lung Foundation (BLF) with a Christmas themed stall in Ashton-Under-Lyne market square.

The students are running the stall for two weeks in the run up to Christmas, to learn vital communication, confidence and entrepreneurial skills.

They are selling a range of Christmas gifts and treats including santa hats, sweets, drinks, handmade calendars and Christmas cards as well as hosting a tombola competition. The students are handing out BLF information leaflets to raise awareness of the charity.

Kasim Aslam, an ambassador for the BLF charity, is working with the students on the project and has been giving tips and advice on how to run the market stall and provide valuable information to the public.

The British Lung Foundation was founded in 1986 and promotes lung health, supports those affected by lung conditions and diseases and campaigns for cleaner air.

Tasiref Hussain, curriculum leader for business at Tameside College, said: “The students are doing very well with the organisation of the stall. They’ve put all their efforts into it and we’re hoping that they can help raise lots of money for the BLF. Hopefully they will also learn a lot from working with the public and managing a very complex event.”

Kasim, said: “I’m thankful to the students and college for being involved with the Christmas market fundraising. I will be helping them with the project throughout so it will be good to see the finished product. I have every faith that they can raise lots of money for a great cause.”
