Cleaning up our ‘Beautiful Borough’

Students from the Technical Skills Academy in Barking cleaned up the local area as part of the Beautiful Boroughs Project.

CleanupUK’s Beautiful Boroughs Project currently runs across 12 boroughs across London; the charity is dedicated to tackling the UK’s litter problem; helping to strengthen communities by encouraging volunteer litter picking groups.

On Thursday 5th December a group of 24 English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students, all aged 16-19 years old, donned high-vis jackets and litter picked.

They went to nearby Abbey Field and picked up some 38 bags of rubbish.

Jennifer Forster, ESOL Lecturer at the College commented: “The students loved taking part in this community activity; they were so proud to see the difference they made.

“The environment we live in certainly has an effect on our mood and looking over a beautiful clean green space at the end of the day definitely made myself and the students feel happy; we do hope other local residents feel the same.”
