.@WestThames Students Build Elephant Juice Bar

Students at West Thames College Skills & Logistics Centre have been working on an exciting project that has seen them build and paint a large retail kiosk.

The kiosk is now in use at the Southbank in London over the summer. The project was commissioned by Daniel Gently, who owns Elephant Juice Bar, which was founded in 2008 and has since been juicing London, Music Festivals and Street Markets across the UK. The company pride themselves in offering high quality juice, made from 100% fresh ingredients, as well as providing an excellent quality of service to all their customers.

The kiosk structure was built by Level One and Two Carpentry students, using responsibly sourced, sustainable materials and then decorated by Level One Painting & Decorating students. The project was overseen by West Thames College Carpentry Lecturer Chris Larkin and David Bennet, a Lecturer in Painting & Decorating, with assistance from Yaroslav Polishchuck.

The whole project took six weeks to complete from planning and construction to transportation from the Skills & Logistics Centre, based at the college’s Feltham Campus, to the Southbank.

Students learned a variety of skills including, planning, interpreting detail from drawings, joinery skills, painting and decorating skills, manual handling and transportation and logistics.
