Students at the City of London Academy Islington receive “exceptional” A-level results

Following months of virtual and in-person classes during the COVID pandemic, students at City of London Academy Islington have been celebrating their A-level results today.

The students achieved a 72% pass rate in grades A* to B, with an overall pass rate across all grades of 100%.

Some of the highest performing students include Jessica Kadiali, who has been awarded A* in English Literature, A* in History, and A in Psychology, which will enable her to study English Literature at the University of Warwick.

Charlie Goodenough, who will now study English Language and Linguistics at Kings College London, University of London, has been awarded A* in English Literature, A* in English Language, and A in History.

Headteacher of City of London Academy Islington, Sonia Jacob, said:

“We are delighted for our students, who have achieved exceptional results, in the most challenging circumstances. Despite significant and frequent interruptions to their studies owing to the pandemic, our students demonstrated resilience and tenacity and they fully deserve the grades that they achieved.

“The vast majority of our sixth form students are progressing to higher education this autumn, and we are sure that they will continue their educational successes at university but, hopefully with less disruption and fewer distractions than they have experienced during the last two years of their education.

“As I am sure that our students would want to do, I would also like to pay testament to the hard work and commitment of teachers at the Academy, who have also had to work in very challenging circumstances, but maintained a total commitment to supporting our students to achieve their very best.”

Chair of the City of London Academies Trust Board, Tijs Broeke, said:

“The students at City of London Academy Islington should be delighted with their A-level results today, not just because their hard work and determination has been reflected in their grades, but also for coping with the huge challenges presented by the COVID pandemic.

“Whether they are now applying for a place at university or seeking employment in London or further afield, my colleagues and I at the City of London Academies Trust Board send our warmest wishes and congratulations to the students, and our immense gratitude to the dedicated teaching staff.”
