Student selected for national multi-skills competition

Talented student Josh McConville has been selected to represent Weston College in Dunlop Adhesive’s national multi-skills competition.

Representatives from Dunlop held a demonstration of Dunlop fillers and tile adhesives, and the techniques used by professional tilers and decorators, before presenting six College students with awards and revealing that Josh had been selected to represent the region at the national competition.

Gareth Birks, Technical Support Manager at Dunlop, said that the idea behind the competition is to celebrate multi-skills students across the country.

“All other trades are able to enter into the SkillBuild competition, so we created an event to give Multi-Skills students the chance to be rewarded too.

“What’s special about multi-skills is that it gives the students who want to learn a trade the opportunity to experience a variety of options before going on to study a specific sector.”

Josh will attend the national finals on the 16th June, where he will demonstrate his tiling, painting and decorating skills in front of judges, and compete against 25 other entrants for the title of Dunlop Multi-Skill Champion Competition Grand Final Winner and a grand prize of £600 worth of tools.

Dave LeFeuvre, Tutorial & Student Progress Coach at Weston College, said: “Our learners get a lot out of opportunities like these.

“Working with trade recognised suppliers like Dunlop gives the learners access to the most current materials and techniques, and helps them become industry ready.

“Josh was a deserving winner of the national competition slot, having seen off tough opposition from across the whole of the multi-skills division.

“I’m looking forward to the 16th June, where I am sure Josh will give everything he has to bring home the national trophy for Weston College, and bag himself a great prize in the process.”
