Stop The Bleed, Save A Life at Havering College
It’s common knowledge that extensive bleeding, whatever the cause, can result in serious bodily harm or even death. Less common, though, is the knowledge on how to deal with the bleeding accordingly and possibly avert tragedy.
Stop The Bleed is an American campaign with the core aim of encouraging everyday people to ‘become trained, equipped and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.’
Ultimately, it hopes to raise awareness about how death from bleeding can be prevented, with proper training and materials. It is a commendable campaign that could, and should, be replicated globally.
We are keen to get involved with the campaign at the College and do our fair share of raising awareness in a variety of ways, one of which is a question time panel on knife crime in light of the current epidemic.
The panel will be chaired by Jack Parsons, award-winning young entrepreneur and CEO of the Big Youth Group, and consist of our principal, emergency services workers and members of the local authority. They will talk to an audience of local learners of all ages from across Havering, who will have the chance to ask them questions about knife crime.
It is a fantastic opportunity for young people within the borough to not only learn about knife crime from different perspectives, but share their own too. We hope that it will raise awareness of the severity of knife crime and serve as a deterrent from it.
The question time will be taking place on Thursday 16th May. It will be recorded and live-streamed on our website/YouTube channel so you don’t have to miss out!
