NCFE and City & Guilds have been chosen to deliver 7 #TLevels from 2021
Contracts awarded to deliver the second wave of T Levels
Major contracts have been awarded today (2 Oct) to develop, deliver and award the second wave of T Levels from September 2021.
Following a competitive bidding process overseen by the Institute, NCFE was awarded contracts to develop the qualifications for Digital Business Services, Digital Support and Services, Health, Healthcare Science and Science. City & Guilds was awarded the contract for Onsite Construction and Building Services Engineering.
T Levels will be the high-quality technical equivalent to A Levels, combining classroom theory, practical learning and a significant industry placement. They will be awarded UCAS tariff points in line with 3 A Levels.
Welcoming this milestone achievement in preparing for the biggest shake-up to technical education in a generation, Education Secretary Gavin Williamson, said:
“T Levels will be the gold standard technical course of choice for young people post-16. They will ensure students can get the skills and knowledge they need to progress whether that is studying at one of our world-class universities, landing a great job or doing an apprenticeship.
“It’s really important that we get the delivery right. City & Guilds and the NCFE have been selected to deliver the second wave of T Levels because of their breadth of knowledge and expertise in the sector. I look forward to seeing our new qualifications become world-leading, ahead of the 2021 roll out, with these two organisations at the helm.”
Sir Gerry Berragan, Chief Executive of the Institute, said:
“I’m delighted that the contracts are now signed for the second wave of T Levels. NCFE and City & Guilds are both respected awarding organisations with a wealth of experience who I am sure will do an excellent job preparing T Levels for delivery in classrooms across the country.”
NCFE and Pearson were previously awarded contracts to deliver the first 3 T Levels through the first wave of the qualifications that will be taught from September 2020.
Stewart Foster, Chief Operating Officer and Responsible Officer at NCFE, said:
“We are absolutely delighted that NCFE has been awarded this new contract to be the delivery partner for the Digital Business Services, Digital Support Services, Health, Healthcare Science and Science T Levels. This will build on our current work with the Institute in delivering the Education and Childcare T Level in 2020 and enable us to support the FE sector to deliver these new pathways from 2021.
“Our core purpose is to promote and advance learning for all. To be at the forefront of this revolution in technical education means we can continue to support thousands of learners across England to progress and succeed.”
Kirstie Donnelly MBE, Managing Director, City & Guilds Group, said:
“The construction sector has been at the heart of City & Guilds since it was founded over 140 years ago and so we are delighted to have been awarded the contract to deliver Construction T Levels. As the leading sector specialists, we are ideally placed to develop these qualifications and we are very excited to be part of this new direction for technical education.
“City & Guilds was originally founded because there was a critical need to train the nation at the time of the second Industrial Revolution. Today, with the UK facing growing skills gaps, the same need exists – and T Levels present an unparalleled opportunity to provide young people with the technical knowledge, skills and behaviours that employers are demanding.
“This a landmark moment within UK education and we look forward to being at the forefront of this new era. By working alongside the Government, employers and training providers, we will create a world-class skills system that will not only secure our talent pipelines but guarantee the UK’s prosperity for the decades to come.”
