Sparks fly as SERC first college to receive welder training certification
Renowned for working closely with industry to generate real business benefits, South Eastern Regional College (SERC) is delighted to announce that they have received certification from TWI Certification Ltd (TWI CL), part of The Welding Institute, to offer specialist coded welder training. SERC is currently the only TWI CL certified provider within Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and is the first college in the province to receive the accreditation.
The certification was achieved following investment in staff training and an assessment under the Certification Scheme for Welder Training Organisations (CSWTO).
The CSWTO is a mark of competence todeliver Welder and Brazer training and as such industry will benefit from having a well-established local training provider able to deliver essential coded welder training.
SERC head of school for computing and engineering Trevor Breadon explains what this means for the college;

Participants on the course can train at the College’s Bangor or Lisburn campus, equipped with state of the art welding technology, which together with experienced and qualified staff, enables learners to undertake practical hands-on experience in purpose built workshops.
The certification will allow SERC to deliver ISO 9606, BS 4872 welder qualification tests, in addition to welding procedures and welding inspection.
Businesses can avail of this training at a discounted price thanks to funding from the Department for the Economy’s Skills Focus training initiative, criteria applies.
