Soaring praise for @CAVC Aerospace degree course

Praise for a degree course in Aircraft Engineering offered by Cardiff and Vale College has been sky high in an external examiner’s report.

CAVC offers a BSc (Hons) course in Aircraft Engineering in partnership with Kingston University in London. Aimed at students who wish to pursue a career in aircraft maintenance, the innovative programme teaches the knowledge and practical skills needed to gain a degree qualification and also covers work detailed in the European Safety Agency category B1.1 aircraft maintenance engineering license syllabus (part-66).

The popular and prestigious course allows learners to study for a full degree without the cost or upheaval of leaving home to go to university. It is offered at the College’s renowned International Centre for Aerospace Training, based at Cardiff Airport.

External examiners typically see and approve draft exam questions before papers are set and review students’ work. They also make annual reports that comment on all aspects of a degree programme, providing universities with vital information as to whether course functions are fulfilled and identifying key areas for improvement and good practice.

An external examiner’s report into the BSc (Hons) Aircraft Engineering course at CAVC noted: “Students on this course are fortunate to have access to first class teaching and training aids in the form of aircraft, engines, well-constructed system rigs and visual aids. Without doubt complemented by highly skilled and enthusiastic staff.”

The reported also pointed out that students “clearly benefited from excellent tuition and guidance”, “well-structured and assessed” course modules and “constructive feedback”.

Aircraft Engineering Lecturer Allan Higman said: “It is very pleasing that the hard work and efforts made by the staff to provide an excellent degree, and the response by the students to produce the work the external examiners have commented upon, have been recognised from well respected industrial and academic experts. In the words of Helen Kheller ‘Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better’.”
