SERC Students Steer their own Course during Global Entrepreneurship Week

South Eastern Regional College (@S_ERC) are scheduled to host a full programme of activities for students and staff as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week 16 -22 November.  

Lizzie Buick, Deputy Director of Enterprise and Entrepreneurship said;

 “Global Entrepreneurship Week gives us the opportunity to focus on the possibilities open to students thinking about their own start-ups and illustrates how they can apply their vocation skills in a business environment, regardless of what they are studying. 

She added,“Our week includes live Q & A sessions from entrepreneur and author Philip Bain, co-founder of ShredBank and Marie Nancarrow, designer and founder of Titanic Denim, pre-recorded interviews with local entrepreneurs, daily tips and a workshop on LinkedIn.    

She concluded, “Students get to hear from real people who started out just like themselves but seized the opportunity to be their own boss and, every day,  steer a business in the direction they choose.” 

SERC, which places enterprise and entrepreneurship at the foundation of all programmes through project based learning, currently has 38 student companies up and running, offering everything from bespoke art works and gifts, upcycled clothing, home décor, artisan bakes, animal care and computer repair services to name a few. Students gain valuable employability skills which complement vocational skills gained on their course of study.
