From education to employment

Special educational needs in England

Kirstie Mackey, Head of LifeSkills created with Barclays

LifeSkills created with Barclays offers lesson plans and teacher resources for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). These resources have been completed with the support of experts at Talentinos and the National Development Team for Inclusion, and tested with staff and students at several different schools.

Commenting on the latest Department for Education stats on special educational needs, Kirstie Mackey, Head of LifeSkills created with Barclays, said:

“The latest Department for Education figures show that, as well as specialist academic support, it’s vital that students with special educational needs and disabilities are given access to high quality careers education, which will help them build the transferable life skills they need to become confident future employees. We know that there is no one-size-fits-all for any young student, but by working together educators and employers can help build their self-confidence, resilience, interview skills and CV writing skills, and help ensure that every young person has the opportunity to realise their aspirations and abilities.”
