From education to employment

Seetec supports jobseekers with Employability Day events across UK

Help was on hand for jobseekers as employment and skills specialist Seetec hosted events across the UK to mark the second annual Employability Day.

Hundreds of Seetec customers visited jobfairs, careers and opportunities showcases in London, Manchester, Essex and East Anglia.

Government representatives and councillors were among the guests attending the events, which also attracted dozens of employers offering job vacancies, apprenticeships and traineeships.

Seetec staff were also on hand with a range of workshops and skills sessions to help jobseekers with application forms and interview skills and advice on self-employment.

National Employability Day is co-ordinated by the Employment Related Services Association (ERSA) to highlight the work carried out by employment support providers across the country to help transform people’s lives, communities and businesses.

Across the UK, employment support providers opened their doors to showcase the range of support available to help people to move towards and gain employment.

Loreta Gruia, Operational Partnership Manager at Seetec, said the event at Stratford proved a great success: “What a productive day we had, with customers happy to meet new employers, sign up for apprenticeships and gain interviews. We had a positive meeting with representatives from the Treasury, who really enjoyed the day.”

Customer Mandy, 29, said: “I am so grateful to have met employers that work with Seetec and are willing to accommodate my personal situation. I have secured two interviews.”

The North-West saw more than 250 Seetec job-seekers attend the events, with over 100 interviews secured for candidates during the day.

A number of employment providers from across the region appeared at both events with vacancies to fill including two of the largest providers of jobs for the local area, The Brick Project/The Queens Hall Action on Poverty and The Old Court, both offering creative community roles.

At Lewisham, more than 70 jobseekers and employer representatives attended an Opportunities Showcase organised with the support of the Bromley and Croydon centres.

Stanley Muguo, Seetec Centre Manager for Lewisham, said: “What a wonderful day, with ten customers gaining interviews, one being offered a job and two who will be enrolling for traineeships. Hopefully more interviews and jobs will follow from all the applications made during the day.”

Customer Liam said: “Today was really good. The first person I saw gave me an offer for a job,” while another customer, Marcia, said: “I really enjoyed the Self-Employment session and I will be making the move, with support.”

Helen Tomlinson, Seetec National Operations Director said, “Celebrating Employability Day in this way was a great opportunity for our customers to meet with more employers in their local community. We are delighted with the support employers have shown, demonstrating their commitment to helping local people back to work.

“Employment providers like Seetec support 100,000’s of people across the UK back to work and events like these are a great way to help more people achieve their potential.”
