Saving lives with emergency first aid training at Cambridge Regional College

Employees from businesses around Cambridge have been learning life-saving skills on a series of Emergency First Aid at Work courses run by Cambridge Regional College.

The day-long courses, which regularly sell out, focus on providing the essential skills needed to respond in an emergency, with extra courses planned because of their popularity.

Participants learn how to handle a first aid emergency at work, give CPR to adults, children and babies, deal with choking and wounds and administer first aid to the unconscious.

The course also includes sessions on assessing situations, recording incidents and communicating with a casualty.

Course organiser David McElroy, from CRC’s employer engagement team, said the course attracted participants from all types of workplace, from grounds maintenance businesses to pharmaceutical companies.

“The courses are very popular and sell out quickly so we have added more dates to our regular programme of short courses for business. They receive great feedback – people go away with far more confidence about coping with a first aid emergency,” he said.

“Learning the essential basic skills really can help save lives. Reacting positively and quickly immediately after an accident can be the difference between life and death.”
