Bradford College features as @BBC put city in the spotlight

The BBC set up camp in Bradford for a week with the aim of highlighting what’s great about the city and telling its stories.

TV and radio reporters based themselves in the city for a week with a number of shows from a range of its channels being broadcast live from pop-up studios in the Broadway shopping centre.

The Asian Network, Radio 4’s Today show, BBC Breakfast and Radio 5Live were among those to take part in the project and Bradford College was well represented with students featuring in a range of programmes.

BBC Radio Leeds reporter Aisha Iqbal brought her microphone into College and broadcast live from the David Hockney Building chatting with a number of students from the Student Base about what they loved about living in Bradford.

Nathan Kelly, Head of the Arts, Science and Technology Division at Bradford College, spoke to Radio Leeds about the College’s proud history of delivering technical training and arts education and the College’s involvement in the growing film and TV industry in the city and how courses are being created by Bradford School of Art to ensure students have the appropriate sector skills to benefit from that growth.   

Also in College was 5Live reporter Nick Garnett who chatted with students Vinay Verma and Roisin Engel about Brexit.

Bethany Tejani, Mark Bartlett and Harris Qamar took part in the Big Debate programme in BBC Asian Network on Thursday live from the Broadway and talked about what the loved about Bradford including snooker, food and friendliness.

The Broadway was also the venue where A Level students Oliver Gibson and Mozalfa Ilyas appeared on the Nihal Arthanayake show and took part in a panel chat on the Brexit issue for his Radio 5Live show.

The We Are Bradford project ran from Monday 11 March to Friday 15 March.
