From education to employment

Barnsley College student sets up quirky Naughty Unicorn business

Young entrepreneur Jennifer Hammonds is juggling her Higher Education studies at Barnsley College with her new business, Naughty Unicorn Glitter, designing trendy t-shirts and face make-up.

The 21-year-old is an event and festival regular at Leeds Festival, V Festival, The Big Feastival and Pride events across the country.

As a young teenager Jennifer set up a stall at Tramlines Festival in Sheffield that sold tie-dye t-shirts. She expanded her business five years later to offer glitter make-up, which earned her the opportunity to showcase her business overseas in Germany, Sweden and France.

She took home the Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the 2014 Proud of Barnsley awards for her previous business, The Blue Frog Clothing, and was shortlisted recently in the Young Entrepreneur category at the Young Champions awards.

Jennifer, a Sport, Health, Fitness and Exercise student, said: “I have always had a passion for health and fitness but have a business instinct. Since studying Higher Education at Barnsley College I have had more time to push the business which has grown massively. I’m even looking to recruit more members of staff to help me on the stalls.

“College is very supportive of me. The tutors and students all offer to help whenever and however they can and the Enterprise department at the College has been a big help.
