The work of photography students at Clarendon Sixth Form College is being exhibited at Manchester Museum after they were tasked with creating a travel themed collection.

Students were asked to produce a collection of photographs to be displayed in an exhibition at the museum dedicated to the theme of ‘journeys’, with families as the intended audience.

To find out more about the museum and to conduct research into the theme of the exhibition, the students were taken on a behind-the-scenes tour of the archeology and anthropology departments by their curators.

Catherine Lumb, secondary and post-16 learning coordinator (humanities) at Manchester Museum, also visited the college to help the students develop their work and to create their final pieces before being displayed.

Manchester Museum displays works of archaeology, anthropology and natural history and is the largest university museum in the UK. They regularly conduct outreach programmes with schools and colleges to engage young people in these areas.

The students work will be on display until July 2018 and can be seen in ‘The Study’ area the museum.

Catherine, said: “It is a real pleasure to work with Clarendon Sixth Form College students as they are dedicated, hardworking young people. The quality of work produced improves year on year and it’s a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the work we do with schools and colleges.”
