NWRC catering student to sample life in Belgium
A Donegal student on the first year of the Level 3 Professional Cookery course at North West Regional College, has won a place at the prestigious Leuven Institute in Belgium.
Adelle Doherty from Drumfries, Inishowen, will spend three months at the College this Summer, which is situated just outside Brussels.
The Institute offers a number of funded placements, on the campus in Leuven, for students studying Further and Higher Education courses in Ireland.
And for 26 years-old Adelle, the opportunity to travel to Leuven will be the perfect opportunity to sample the culture of a new country.
She explained: “My placement in Belgium will last three months and I’ll be trying out a number of different roles including being a kitchen assistant and helping with food preparation.
“My ultimate goal when I finish my course next year is to open my own café with a library. As well as cooking I also love reading so it would be dream come true to combine the two.
“I’m looking forward trying out some new food when I’m away and maybe learn some new techniques.”
NWRC Lecturer Douglas Walker explained that for many years the college has enjoyed successful links with the Institute.
He added: “The college has previously sent several students to Leuven where they gained valuable experience working in a conference centre, catering and in a hotel environment.
“Adelle is an exceptional student and we are delighted that she has secured what will be a very beneficial placement.”
Adelle is taking part in the placement as part of an Erasmus+ funded project.
