NOCN takes action to help Carillion learners and apprentices

NOCN understands that the Government through the ESFA is taking the lead in supporting Carillion learners and apprentices to find alternative employment and training provision through which to complete their qualifications and apprenticeships.

The ESFA has asked the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) to find employers and new training providers specifically for 1,400 Carillion Construction apprentices.

Having recently bought Cskills Awards to create one of the largest joint Construction sector Awarding Organisations, NOCN is pleased to be offering support to CITB in its efforts to help Carillion apprentices complete their training.

The full number of learners which NOCN-Cskills Awards has registered with Carillion is 2586; divided between NOCN which has 369 and Cskills Awards which has 2217. This will likely include a significant number of the 1,400 apprentices within the scope of CITB’s focus, but the exact amount is yet to be confirmed as the investigation continues over the coming days.

As a responsible regulated Awarding Organisation, NOCN has issued a B3 Notification to Ofqual, regarding the potential ‘Adverse Effect’ on learners through the Carillion collapse. It will be doing all it can to mitigate this Adverse Effect by working closely with CITB, the ESFA and other organisations involved in the recovery process.

It is important to emphasise that there are other registered Carillion learners who fall outside of the CITB remit, and NOCN will work with the ESFA to help ensure they also receive the help and support they need to continue their training. These include learners who are registered for NOCN-Cskills Awards Construction NVQs or other qualifications and also learners and apprentices who are outside of Construction, for example those learning English and maths Functional Skills, Facilities Management, and Hospitality.

We will also liaise closely with ESFA to ensure all other Carillion learners can gain their qualifications. We share the same vision, to get these young people back into work and training as soon as possible with the minimum of disruption.”
