Making Change Autumn 2021 – Free opportunities to experience life at an art school

Hosted by Plymouth College of Art, Making Change is a free three-week course to help those interested in creative study build confidence and develop a portfolio

Plymouth College of Art is offering a limited number of places on a free, three-week course for anybody interested in creative undergraduate or postgraduate-level study who wants to build their confidence and portfolio before deciding whether to take the plunge and make a university application.

Starting on Wednesday 29 September and open to anybody who will be aged between 18 and 70 years old when the course begins, Making Change offers a free opportunity to experience life at an art school. The three-week course will give participants opportunities to work with different painting and printing techniques, test their skills as a fine artist, and get hands-on with materials, all while building a portfolio and discovering their creative potential.

Making Change is ideal for anybody already considering creative study at university-level, particularly for anybody who wanted to begin their studies in 2021 but was worried that they’d left it too late. As well as meeting practicing artists at Plymouth College of Art who teach a wide range of disciplines, participants will be given one-to-one support on how to put together a portfolio, information about how student finance works, alongside opportunities for plenty of exciting artistic exploration.

Past Making Change participants have said that they “enjoyed just about everything about Making Change,” “It really ignited my creativity and I loved coming up with ideas for each project by using methods from sketching, watercolour and collage to lino printing and sewing,” and that “I absolutely loved the course and didn’t want it to end.”

Making Change courses have been running at Plymouth College of Art since 2019, aimed at supporting people who need an extra confidence boost to decide whether studying creative arts at university level is the right choice for them or not.
