Leicester College to upgrade facilities at Abbey Park Campus to support new T Levels programme
@LeicesterColl will complete major new building works at its Abbey Park Campus to support the new #TLevels programme. The refurbishment work will be funded by a successful application to the Department for Education’s T Level Capital Fund 2020-21. This will significantly improve facilities for students on the new T Levels technical study programmes starting in September 2021.
The majority of the building works will involve the refurbishment of a 19th-century canalside C Block building on the Abbey Park Campus. This will include routing the entrance to a more accessible location, opening up the building to create collaborative working facilities/spaces within the atrium area, and creating larger classrooms.
T Level courses are designed by employers with The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education. These two-year qualifications combine classroom study and industry placements, giving students the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge employers look for. Leicester College will be offering T levels in four curriculum areas – Education and Childcare, Construction, Digital and Healthcare Science.
Verity Hancock, Principal of Leicester College said:
“We’re delighted that our bid to the T Level Capital Fund has been successful. The funding will support new building works at our Abbey Park Campus that will enable us to provide top quality facilities for the new cohort of T Level students set to start in September 2021.
“The introduction of the T Levels technical programmes is designed with employers to give young people the skills that industry needs so it’s critical that young people taking the new technical courses have access to industry standard equipment and high-quality facilities.”
