Leicester College student reaches final of National Apprenticeship Awards

Tia Whelan, who studies at Leicester College, is one of two regional finalists in the National Apprenticeship Awards.

Tia will attend the awards ceremony on 27 November 2019, where she will find out if she has won the title of Intermediate Apprentice of the Year.

The National Apprenticeship Awards showcase the diverse and growing range of sectors that utilise apprenticeships.

The awards celebrate both employers who improve their business with apprenticeships, and the apprentices who make the most of the opportunities.

Reaching this stage of the awards is quite an achievement and finalists had to impress during the rigorous regional judging process. Their stories highlight best practice in recruitment excellence, training practices, diversity and career progression.

Tia Whelan said:

“It’s a real honour to be nominated for the national awards and also to be in the category for the apprentice of the year. I enjoy my role at UK Gas and I have learnt so much whilst completing this apprenticeship. I enjoy being an ambassador for the college women in construction too and promoting construction roles too”.

Matt Page, UK Gas Operational Manager added:

“Tia is a role model for other females in the trade and other apprentices in the office. She is always keen to learn and always enthusiastic to learn more trades. She is very confident in completing jobs on her own. We at UK Gas are very proud of her and her commitment.”
