Leeds Trinity University launches Journalism and Media Week 2021

@LeedsTrinity University will welcome industry experts from the UK’s leading broadcasters, newspapers, magazines and digital media organisations in November at its annual Journalism and Media Week.

Now in its 13th year, Journalism and Media Week gives students the opportunity to attend talks, workshops and Q&A sessions with world-renowned broadcasters, journalists and industry leaders who provide an insight into what it’s like to work in today’s journalism and media industries.

The 2021 event starts on Monday 8 November and sessions will take place both in-person and virtually. Each session will also be streamed live via the Leeds Trinity University Facebook and YouTube channels.

Journalism and Media Week has established a reputation for bringing some of the key figures in the industry to Leeds.

Throughout the week students will get the opportunity to network with a range of professionals including BBC journalist, filmmaker and Leeds Trinity University alumnus Mobeen Azhar; Leeds United TV presenter Emma Louise Jones; BBC Breakfast producer Claire Ryan; Former NFL player and BBC presenter Jason Bell; Former Downing Street Director of Communications Lee Cain; and Empire’s Digital Editor-in-Chief James Dyer.

A group of recent Leeds Trinity graduates will also take part in a panel session about how they have started their careers at different media outlets following university.

Professor Catherine O’Connor, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Experience, will open the 2021 Journalism and Media Week event. She said:

“I am delighted that Leeds Trinity University is able to host Journalism and Media Week again this year. After a virtual event in 2020, it is great that we can welcome a host of industry experts back to campus for what is a key event for our students.

“Students attending Journalism and Media Week always take a lot from the experience and it’s a huge pleasure every year that we run this event to see them able to listen to and network with some of the leading professionals in the journalism and media industry, including a number of our alumni.”

Darren Harper, Sports Journalism Programme Leader at Leeds Trinity University and co-lead of Journalism and Media Week, said:

“Journalism and Media Week is always a fantastic opportunity for our students to get an insight into what it’s like working in the real world of journalism and media.

“Students can listen to, engage and network with some of the industry’s best and they always learn so much from this event.

“We have got a special line-up this year, including some of Leeds Trinity’s journalism alumni, which will show our students just what they can achieve after leaving university.”
