Leeds Tiling Student Creates Pop-Tastic Tile Design
A promising tiling student has partnered with leading tile retailer, CTD Tiles, to create a fan art creation made of entirely tiles to help celebrate CTD Tiles’ new Pixel Pop range.
Callum Pearson, a student at Leeds College of Building and apprentice at family run bathroom and kitchen installation company, D.Pearson Bathrooms & Kitchens, created “Night Vigilante”, inspired by popular culture.
Callum flexed his tiling muscles to create the super fan art in under four hours. The task allowed him to practice for his entry in the UK National Final of the SkillBuild 2017 competition, which took place November 16-18.
Steve Roberts, Callum’s tutor at Leeds College of Building, said: “We find working with companies a really valuable experience for both the college and its students.
“Some of our tutors starred in BBC’s ‘To Build or Not To Build’, a TV show which helped guide self builders through a wide range of construction related trades, a few years ago.
“By collaborating with CTD Tiles, it’s given Callum some hands-on experience to create a challenging design which in turn will really help him when he competes in the SkillBuild UK National final.”
Night Vigilante is part of the Pixel Pop range, a collection of fan art tile bundles for the biggest pop culture fans. The packs allow customers to recreate their favourite characters from well-known comics, films, games and television programmes.
Inspired by popular culture, there are eight designs available. From the sprightly Red Italian Plumber to Sir Superspeed – a superhero able to move and react at the speed of light, the designs will transport you back to your childhood.
Each vibrant pack offers a blueprint of the easy-to-follow design as well as all of the tiles that you need to create your marvellous masterpiece. Tiles used within each pack are part of the Reflections by GEMINI tiles, a glazed ceramic tile to protect against staining and offer a pristine, glossy finish on your next project.
From superheroes to magical animals, the eight characters available include:
- Green Galactic Genius
- Green Giant
- Magical Baby Horse
- Night Vigilante
- Red Italian Plumber
- Sir Superspeed
- Space Soldier
- Thunder Warrior
Tracy Hildreth, from the CTD website team, said: “Fan art has become increasingly popular over the years and we believe that everyone will enjoy our whimsical take on nostalgia.
“We wanted to create something that would delight and excite our customer base and we believe our customers will quickly fall in love with these characters.”
The Pixel Pop range is available at CTD Tiles, with prices starting at £39.99.
