Leeds City College and Keighley College celebrate one of the lowest gender pay gaps in the region

Leeds City College and Keighley College have released their gender pay figures for the 2018 financial period and remain among the top education institutions for recording exceptional gender pay statistics, with a 0.5% median pay gap recorded.

The colleges has over 1,284 staff members with females making up approximately 65.6% of the workforce overall.

Deputy Chief Executive of Luminate Education Group, Lydia Devenny said:

“The group continues to pride itself on being an inclusive and diverse employer, demonstrated by our recent Investors in Diversity accreditation.

“We are confident that men and women are, paid equally for doing the same job at the college. We are continuing to work very hard to address any disparity in the workforce.”

Last year, UK companies were, for the first time, asked to submit their gender pay figures. This year, the public sector as a whole has failed to narrow its gender pay gap, with women still paid an average of 86p for every pound paid to men.

Since last year, organisations with more than 250 employees have been required to report their gender pay gaps at the end of the financial year.

According to the most recent information on the gender pay gap, the latest figures show that the median pay gap in the public sector was 14.1% in 2018, slightly higher than the 14% of a year earlier, though still below the national average of 17.9% across both the public and private sectors

The gender pay gap is the difference between female and male average earnings, either within a particular employer or nationally.
