From education to employment

Law Firm Opens Debate On Gender Equality in Sport, Law And Education

Crystal Palace (@CPFC) Goalkeeper and CEO of Loughborough College (@Lborocollege) Opens @IrwinMitchell Webinar on 22 April.

On Thursday 22 April, Irwin Mitchell is set to host a unique event aimed at breaking down barriers in sport, law and education.

The webinar hosted by IM Powered, an internal group that supports diversity in the workplace, will feature Chloe Morgan, the Crystal Palace goalkeeper as well as an Irwin Mitchell lawyer, who will discuss her twin dreams of being a professional sportswoman and pursuing a legal career.

Joining Chloe is Jo Maher, the Chief Executive at Loughborough College, who has worked with a host of athletes, from those taking their first steps in sport, to Olympic standard professionals.

Jo will be discussing the pursuit of ambitions through both education and sport and her views on the best ways of breaking down the barriers that women can face in entering both sectors.

Now playing for Crystal Palace FC Women, Chloe has enjoyed a successful career that has seen her promoted with both Tottenham Hotspur and her current club; while also working as a serious brain injury solicitor at a national law firm.

While continuing to encourage girls to get involved with football, Chloe has also fought for more BAME and LGBT representation in sport; something IM Powered is committed to emulating within the workplace, in addition to the firm’s efforts to address gender balance across the business.

Helen Dyke, an expert lawyer in the employment team at Irwin Mitchell, said:

“Education remains vital as a means to encourage more young women to seize the opportunities open to them in terms of sport, the legal profession and more widely.

“Chloe is a perfect example of someone who has enjoyed success in both arenas and continues to support the next generation of women via coaching and her work as an ambassador; while Jo has risen to become CEO and principal of Loughborough College and is an expert in sport and exercise psychology.

“The event promises to be a fascinating discussion between two women who have risen to the top in their chosen fields and can offer real insight into what it takes to achieve success and how more young people can be given the support they need to take the opportunities available.”

Open to all, the webinar, Breaking down barriers in sport, law and education will run from 1.00pm-2.00pm on 22 April and Irwin Mitchell colleagues and anyone outside the business are welcome to attend.
