Kylie Minogue leaves student West Suffolk College Orion spinning around

Kylie Minogue backstage with student Orion

West Suffolk College student Orion Nichol has been very lucky, lucky, lucky with his work experience – he got to work for superstar @KylieMinogue

Orion from Sudbury is studying Level 3 Music Technology and he got the chance to spend a week in London helping during Kylie’s rehearsals and a fabulous show. Orion helped set up the stage with its drum kit, microphone and stage props for daily rehearsals and then set up for the night show at Café de Paris.

Plus he got to watch Kylie’s show from the side of the stage.

Not only did he really enjoy and learn a lot he also got to chat with the superstar.

“She asked me what I am doing in college and said it will give me valuable experience”.

Now he has a chance to work on her shows later in the year and he has made some great contacts in the business that he hopes to enter and make his career after taking a degree.

Orion has always been keen on music and has helped work backstage with several small concerts and with college gigs and festivals in order to build his experience.

Orion is still spinning around from working with the superstar. He is now a “pretty big” Kylie fan – and of course, he got the all important photo!

Joe Stocking, course director for Music, Music Tech and Electronic Music at west Suffolk College, said;

”This was a brilliant opportunity which has arisen through hard work and perseverance. Orion has developed outstanding stage management and live production skills throughout his time on the Music Technology course, but he also understands the importance of networking and going the extra mile – this is something that we really push all our students to do. This opportunity is already opening up further doors to him.”
