ICC Cricket World Cup comes to Bradford College

Bradford College played host to a piece of famous sporting silverware.

The ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy visited the College as part of a nationwide tour of the country in the run up to this year’s Cricket World Cup, which takes place at 11 venues across England and Wales this summer.

Hundreds of students got the chance to see the iconic trophy up close and have photos taken with it.

Among the students keen to get a selfie with the silverware were members of the College’s burgeoning cricket team who have been selected to act as flagbearers for the World Cup matches scheduled to take place at Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds, the nearby home of Yorkshire Cricket.

Among the students thrilled to see the trophy was Neel Mistry, a Level 3 Sports student who will be one of the flagbearers, said: “It was amazing to have the trophy here – a real once in a lifetime opportunity for someone like me who is a huge cricket fan.

“I am really looking forward to the World Cup starting and being part of it at Headingley.”

As well as the trophy, a number of other activities were organised, including a flash mob dance performance with Punjabi Roots Academy in collaboration with Performing Arts students, face-painting and All Stars Cricket games.

The ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy Tour, driven by Nissan, is on a 100-day tour of England and Wales and will be at over 100 locations and events before arriving back in London ready for the opening match on May 30.
