Health and Social Care sector employee’s benefit from SERC Course
Health and Social Care sector employee’s benefit from new knowledge of how to care for adults suffering from dementia from South Eastern Regional College’s (SERC) Level 3 Award in Awareness of Dementia.
The students who work at Essential Homecare Services and Beverly Lodge Nursing Home in Newtownards took part in this new 86-hour knowledge-based course is offered at SERC’s Newtownards Campus. This course focuses on understanding the dementia process and experience, medication use in dementia, communication and interaction and inclusion and diversity in dementia.
Andrea Kennedy, Business Development Manager for Health and Social Care at SERC said, “The reception we have received from students about this course has been excellent. We are currently the only College who offer this course, so it is great to hear that our students have benefited from attending this course and can apply this new knowledge to their various workplaces. As life expectancy within the population rises, so too does the need for greater awareness of illnesses such as dementia.”
