Gavin Williamson welcomed to Cannock College to showcase state-of-the-art engineering and electrical facilities

Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson MP visited Cannock College today, on Friday 4th October.
The visit included a tour around Cannock College which provides courses, training opportunities, short courses and apprenticeships for all levels and abilities to boost skills and secure jobs in and around the Cannock region and beyond.
Gavin received a guided tour of the college’s electrical workshops and brand-new state of the art Engineering Academy led by Director of Faculty – AgriSTEM, Construction and Engineering, Andy Cartwright.
During the visit, Gavin visited the electrical workshop where students and apprentices, Phillip Berry, Sonny Blakeman, Tom Crabb, Oliver Finch, Brandon Hall, Miguel Pinto, Kieran Ramah, Carter Shelley, Mathew Trante and Richard Wootton were all hard at work demonstrating the technical skills they’re learning on their course.
Gavin then met with some of our current engineering students, Jack Evans, Elliott Whitehouse, Benjamin Preece, Samuel Johnson, Lewis Reeve, Ryan Nutting, Matt Jones, Jack Capper and Joseph Johnson who were delighted to show our state-of-the-art engineering machines in action, and the skills they’ve learnt that industry demand.
These students showcased their skills by presenting Gavin with 3D model of an owl that they had made. Gavin is Patron of the World Owl Trust which is based at Rodbaston Animal Zone.

Chief Executive Principal, Claire Boliver, and Chair of Governors, Steve Burgin also welcomed the opportunity to have a two-way dialogue with Gavin about the FE sector.
