Game changer! East Sussex College launches exciting new Esports course
Computer game enthusiasts across Sussex can now study a diploma in Esports thanks to East Sussex College’s (@WeAreESCG) brand new course.
Starting in September 2021, this cutting-edge Level 3 Diploma will help young people turn their passion from gaming into a successful career in this rapidly growing industry.
The course has been developed with the British Esports Association and is taught at the Lewes campus. Students will study for two years and gain valuable skills and experience in areas such as game playing, the culture of Esports, and how to design, market, and deliver a competitive Esports event.
The UK is part of the global Esports growth story, with UK Esports estimated to have grown at an annual average rate of 8.5% between 2016 and 2019. In 2020, global Esports was thought to have accounted for $1.1 billion in revenue – an annual growth of 15.7%. (Source: 2020 Global Esports Market Report, Newzoo).
George Hedges, Head of Curriculum for Computing at East Sussex College Lewes, said,
“Esports is booming right now, and we’re really excited to be one of the only colleges offering this qualification anywhere in the South East.
“Students will learn industry-standard software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects, they’ll develop knowledge in game theory, planning and character design, and understand IT technical support and cyber security processes.
“Game play is also a really attractive part of this course. The students will form part of a competitive Esports Team, with entry into national competitions. And they also have an incredible opportunity to plan, promote and manage their own tournaments, initially within the college, but also aimed at a much wider audience.”
The course starts in September 2021 and is now open for applications. The college is expecting a huge demand for this course, so please get your application in as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.
