Quirky local baker to compete in TV in Christmas cake competition

A former Barking & Dagenham College food studies student is featuring on Channel 4’s Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas on Wednesday 27th November.

Talented baker Claire Flavin-Jones from Barking will be taking part in a Christmas cake competition with three other shortlisted contestants.

Claire spotted the opportunity online and eagerly applied for the show, including pictures of her work and a drawing of the design she planned to make for the show. The quirky baker specialises in custom cakes and baked treats and started her successful bakery Bombshell Bakes whilst still at the College.

She was ecstatic to find out that, from thousands of entries, she was one of the four finalists to be selected to compete on the show.

The show has 15 episodes, starting Monday 25th November and running for 3 weeks. Each episode features a different Christmas-themed competition, such as the Christmas cake one which Claire is competing in.

Claire, who already has several awards under her belt and is currently competing at the Ideal Home Christmas Show said: “I’m really proud to be one of four chosen to compete in this wonderful show at Christmas headquarters. It has topped off a fantastic first year for Bombshell Bakes!”

The programme will air on Channel 4 at 5pm on Wednesday 27th November with the winner announced at the end of the episode.
