Andi Osho, the successful actress, writer and comedian, and a former student of Barking & Dagenham College, has got behind a national campaign called ‘Love Our Colleges’.
In a decade of austerity, over a million opportunities for adults to train and re-train have been lost every year and 16-18 year olds are now receiving 10 hours less per week in teaching and support than their counterparts in other countries.
Barking & Dagenham College, alongside every other college in the country has had to deal with an overall cut of 30% to funding over the last decade. .
Colleges, led by the Association of Colleges, have called on the chancellor to ensure an education funding plan that invests properly in all young people and adults to give this country the skills it requires for the future.
In a video of support for the ‘Love Our Colleges’ campaign Andi Osho says: “[going to college is] such a great thing to do. It’s more than just about the subjects you study, it’s about getting an education in terms of life and it’s a really nurturing, safe environment to do that.”
The ‘Love Our Colleges’ campaign sees colleges across the country showcasing the great work they do during Colleges Week (14-18 October).
