Construction trainees from London to compete in UK SkillBuild competition
Three apprentices from London have won a place at the National Final of the UK’s longest running construction skills competition.
Organised by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), SkillBuild has been showcasing the talent of construction trainees from across the UK for several decades. The competition involves a variety of challenges in a number of skills, including plastering, stonemasonry, painting and decorating and bricklaying.
After successfully competing in the SkillBuild RegionalQualifiers, representing colleges from London, the following will progress to the UK final held at the Birmingham NEC from November 15 – 17.
College of North West London
- Alfie Howe – Plastering and Drywall Systems
- Harry May – Plastering
Building Crafts College
- Jordan Cliffe – Stonemasonry
The three apprentices will now take on fellow finalists from across the UK. The overall goal is to win SkillBuild 2018 and to potentially secure a place in Team UK for the international competition WorldSkills Kazan 2019.
Janette Welton-Pai, Partnerships Manager at CITB, said: “Competing in SkillBuild is a really great way to kick-start a successful and rewarding career in construction.
“The competition puts the apprentices’ skills to the test which is vital for them to grow in their chosen trade. As the largest multi-trade contest in the UK for construction trainees, SkillBuild allows learners to showcase their expertise and gain recognition for their talent.
“Congratulations to these three talented apprentices for what they have achieved so far and I wish them the best of luck as they head to the UK National Final to carry the flag for London.”
