COLLEGE PRINCIPAL STRENGTHENS MACCLESFIELD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Macclesfield Chamber of Commerce has enhanced its board with the appointment of Macclesfield College Principal and Chief Executive, Rachel Kay.
Cheshire-born Rachel took over the College in August 2015 and has since worked hard to provide strategic leadership and develop a clear vision. She has also been instrumental in re-engaging with the local business community, with the college recently achieving a good Ofsted rating for its Apprenticeship provision.
Rachel also played a pivotal role in helping the College achieve a Silver Award in the North East Cheshire Business Awards 2015 in the ‘Best Company to Work For’ category as well as reaching the final of Education Investor Awards 2016.
Rachel’s new role will see her advise local organisations on education. She will be working closely with small, medium-sized and large employers to optimise opportunities for skills in work and Apprenticeships.
Nigel Schofield, Chairman of Macclesfield Chamber of Commerce, said: “Rachel has a proven track record in both education and business sectors and we are delighted to welcome her on to the board. She’s demonstrated her endless enthusiasm and drive to succeed in every step of the way since taking over the management of Macclesfield College.
“The business community will benefit from engaging closely with Rachel, whose commitment will be vital in ensuring that local employers have access to skilled and talented individuals over the coming years.”
Rachel began her career in top level management with a national hotel chain before moving to the role of director and assistant principal at Salford City College. After a successful move into education, Rachel was named as one of the ‘Most Influential Woman in Business’ by Midlands Business Insider.
Rachel added: “We have been a member of the Chamber for some time and I was honoured to be invited to join the board. My new role will guarantee that our College remains at the centre of the local community and will be the catalyst for expanding my knowledge of the business landscape in Macclesfield and Cheshire East.”
