Citizen Maths is working with over 20 partner organisations, to help them make appropriate use of Citizen Maths within their own learning or training programmes. and is looking to extend the number of partners further. Such partners could be learning providers (such as Further Education colleges) or employers, or membership organisations such as trade unions.

Citizen Maths is distinctive in that it uses an approach to learning that sets maths in the context of how people use it: for example, measuring things, comparing data or assessing risks. It helps learners think of maths as a set of powerful ideas which can be applied to everyday situations. It provides opportunities for learners to experiment with the maths. Citizen Maths is designed primarily to help adults improve their grasp of maths at Level 2, rather than being focused specifically on maths qualifications such as GCSE or Functional Skills.

The course uses a mix of short video tutorials and practical exercises. Learners can choose which elements of the course to complete, learn at their own pace and each ‘powerful idea’ is likely to take between five and ten hours to complete.  For learners who complete Citizen Maths in its entirety, a Statement of Participation is available.

Citizen Maths is funded by the Ufi Charitable Trust. It is developed by Calderdale College, with the UCL Institute of Education, OCR, and with advice from the Google Course Builder team.
